Shirley J. Phipps Vintage Fashion Collection
If you love vintage fashion you'll love stepping back in time, as one of our knowledgeable presenters guides you through our expansive collection of more than 2,000 items dating from 1880-1980. The collection features everything from "unmentionables" to the "little black dress" of the 20th Century to special garments from a single decade.
Bits of our collection, spanning 1900-1980, are often put on display at dedicated Club events. And each year we host a Vintage Fashion Tea fundraiser in honor of the Spokane Lilac Festival Royalty candidates. We would be happy to put on a fashion show or display for your special occasion! Our trunk shows are full of fascinating things to see and discuss for a full hour. For more information, contact:
About the Collection
The Woman's Club Vintage Fashion Collection began during Spokane's Centennial in 1981 when women searched their attics for historic clothing to wear to celebratory events. With ample space, Woman's Club Spokane became the curator of the Collection (later renamed the Shirley J. Phipps Collection in honor of beloved former Club president and devoted fashion curator). Recently, it's part of the Woman's Club mission to downsize and curate the collection to better preserve and share it with the public.
Interested in becoming involved in the conservation of Spokane's fashion heirlooms? Or perhaps you are interested in being a model for our historical fashion shows? No experience is necessary and all shapes and sizes are welcome (we also have a smaller men's collection). To volunteer with these efforts, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
